2009/10 Competition Results

Congratulations to Haberdashers Aske's Boys B (Miles Coleman and Aaron Taylor), who beat Haberdashers Aske's Boys A, Parrs Wood A and Westminster A in the Grand Final. Congratulations also to Alice Huntley (Parrs Wood A) who topped the Speaker Tab.

2008/09 Competition Results

Congratulations to St. Pauls (Ben Woolgar & Ben Zelenka-Martin) who beat St Olave's, Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar and Grammar School at Leeds on a 5-2 split. Ben Woolgar was the top speaker on the tab and best speaker in the final.

2007/08 Competition Results

Congratulations to Loreto College (Rebecca McGrath & Julia Lawlor) who were the Winners of the Oxford Union Schools Debating Competition 2007/08. The other teams in the Grand Final were Tunbridge Wells A, Notting Hill and Richard Huish B.

The Best Speaker in the Final of the competition was Julia Lawlor (Loreto College) and the Best Speaker on the tab was Jennifer Coyne (Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar).

The motions run were as follows:

Round 1: THBT all future investment in energy generation in the UK should be in renewable sources.
Round 2: THBT children whose parents attempt to prevent them from receiving essential medical treatment should be taken into care.
Round 3: THBT it is legitimate for governments to lie to their people in times of war.
Round 4: THBT there should be quotas for gay, ethnic minority, overweight and disabled groups in all childrens' television.
Final: THBT there are no illegitimate targets in times of war.

2006/07 Competition Results

Congratulations to Habs Boys A (James Fox & Ben Lewy) who were the Winners of the Oxford Union Schools Debating Competition 2006/07. The other teams in the Grand Final, debating the motion 'THW allow UN troops to seek and forcibly extradite indicted war criminals across international borders', were Habs Girls B, St Pauls Boys and Grove Academy.

The Best Speaker in the Final of the competition was Elizabeth Bauer (Habs Girls B) and the Best Speakers on the tab were Ben Lewy (Habs Boys A) and Ben Woolgar (St. Pauls Boys).

The Motions run were as follows:

Round 1: THB that all non-religious state schools should allocate places on a lottery basis.
Round 2: THW criminalise the playing and provision of any form of online gambling.
Round 3: THW not prosecute battered women who kill their partners.
Round 4: THB that the proceeds from natural resource exploitation should be paid directly to the population rather than to governments.
Final: THW allow UN troops to seek and forcibly extradite indicted war criminals across international borders.

2005/06 Competition Results

The 2005/06 Oxford Union Society Schools’ Debating Competition was won by Richard Trainor and Jamie MacFarlane of Westminster School, debating the motion ‘This House would introduce chain gangs to the British Penal System.’
The other finalists were Timosha Goldfarb and Andrew Rose of City of London Boys’ School, Joel Kinahan and Josie Whittle of St George’s School and Shane Murray and Richard Lau of King Edward’s School, Birmingham.
City of London Boys’ School was the top team on the tab, and Max Kasriel from St Paul’s Boys’ School and Mardi MacGregor from Strathallan School were joint best speakers on tab. Richard Trainor was the best speaker in the final.

The motions that were run were as follows:

Round 1: THW introduce performance-related pay for teachers
Round 2: THW take international military action against Iran to prevent it developing a nuclear industry
Round 3: THW compel political parties to field 50% female candidates in all UK General Elections
Round 4: THW compel European companies operating in the developing world to adhere to EU environmental standards
Final: THW introduce chain-gangs to the British penal system
